Notes

Story Synopsis:
When Harry Met Sally... is a delightful romantic comedy directed by Rob Reiner. It stars Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal who meet as disagreeing car-pooling college graduates on their way to New York City. Years later, fate takes a turn, and they meet once again. This time, they become great friends, giving each other support as they both help each other endure the personal crisis of failed relationships.

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture is easy on the eyes, with natural, smooth color fidelity, accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are sharp, with nicely rendered detail and definition. The picture is smooth, with few distractions, though edge enhancement and pixelization are occasional. (Suzanne Hodges)

Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 2.0 matrix surround soundtrack offers your run-of-the-mill film stereo experience. The soundstage is screen-biased and is dialogue-centric. Fidelity is clearly dated and some background hiss can be noticed during quiet moments. Dialogue is presented with reasonable clarity but the dated recording limits its natural tonality. The music is amply satisfying at times with gentle surround envelopment. This is a soundtrack that delivers adequately for its storytelling purpose. (Perry Sun)

DVD/Previously Reviewed LD Comparative Review:

Compared to the THX® digitally mastered LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 9, the anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits refinements in color fidelity and improved sharpness. Viewed alone, the picture is easy on the eyes, with natural, smooth color fidelity, accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are sharp, with nicely rendered detail and definition. The picture is smooth, with few distractions, though edge enhancement and pixelization are occasional.
