DVD Picture:
Though not anamorphically enhanced, the 2.20:1 DVD exhibits pleasing image quality. Colors are naturally balanced, with accurate fleshtones, rich and warm colors and deep solid blacks. The jetpack creates moiré patterns that would not be apparent had the picture been anamorphically enhanced. Images are sharp and detailed with excellent contrast and shadow delineation, though there is occasional edge enhancement. Overall the picture is quite pleasing, but would have benefitted from an anamorphic transfer for obvious reasons.
Soundtrack:
The DVD has miscredited the soundtrack as Dolby® Surround, when in fact it is remastered 5.1-channel discrete Dolby Digital. The audio is powerful, dynamic, and appropriate for this film. The soundfield often has an aggressive presence that spacious and expansive. The music score is engaging and sweeping, setting just the right emotional tone for many of the action scenes. The sound effects have been creatively employed and span the entire listening space. The .1 LFE is used extensively, with energized bass extension to below 25Hz.
