Story Synopsis:
Hollywood high-rollers star in “Ocean’s Eleven,” making up the eleven-man crew organized by Danny Ocean (Clooney) to pull off the most daring heist in Las Vegas since 1960. Based on a screenplay by Harry Brown and Charles Lederer and a story by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture exhibits pleasing quality, with sharp and nicely detailed images. Imagery includes some stylization, and colors are rich and warm, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Some scenes are completely soaked with color, such as rich reds and oranges, which slightly affect fleshtone fidelity. Contrast and shadow delineation are well balanced. George Clooney’s jacket in the opening scene creates a few problems visually, as the pattern shimmers slightly. An edge of enhancement is noticed on occasion, and some pixelization is also detected at times. Overall the look of the picture should be quite satisfying. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The multichannel sound mix for this Dolby® Digital 5.1 soundtrack was originally created in eight channels, and supervising sound editor/re-recording mixer Larry Blake utilized the Pro Tools computer workstation platform throughout the production. The soundstage is nicely expansive and immersive across the screen. There is a palpable spatial presence in general, albeit predominating from the screen channels. The surrounds do come alive during selected moments, though. The low-end is characteristically reserved, with the .1 LFE typically quiescent. The dialogue, which was sourced from production recordings, is clear and intelligible in delivery, with natural tonality and often impressive spatial integration. (Perry Sun)
