Joe Nast (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his fiancée Diana Floss called off their wedding. Three days later, she was dead. Now Joe and Diana’s parents Ben (Dustin Hoffman) and Jojo (Susan Sarandon) have to try to figure out how to cope with her death and get on with their lives. The three have to learn how to salvage their own relationships while Nast struggles to deal with new relationship with Bertie Knox (Ellen Pompeo), a woman he met just after his fiancée’s funeral. Knox has also lost a loved one, and their relationship grows, Nast discovers he’s not as lost in the world as he thinks he is.
