Notes

Story Synopsis:
The long awaited tribute that chronicles the life and genius of Andy Kaufman, Man On The Moon eerily stars Jim Carrey who, along with director-and Kaufman fan-Milos Forman allows us a glimpse at the life behind the man who became known to many of us through that fateful first broadcast of Saturday Night Live where he puzzled-and delighted-us with his infamous Mighty Mouse lip-syncing bit. The movie traces his life from his early career, Elvis impersonations and Taxi’s Latka Gravas portrayal through inter-gender wrestling, Tony Clifton and his fight against cancer that many believed was just another one of his stunts. “T’ank you veddy much.”

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture exhibits excellent quality that is very natural. Images are sharp and detailed with superb depth. Colors are rich and nicely balanced with vibrant hues and the deepest blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered, with a natural gradation of visual information in the darker scenes. The improv scenes are nice examples of the film’s depth and shadow delineation, as visual information is excellent in the audience as viewed from the stage. The picture is solid, with no distractions.

Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue-driven, but for the purposes of this film, should be adequate. The DTS® Digital Surround™ 5.1 audio is very nearly the same, with a touch more "kick" in the lower frequencies, finer low level signal resolution and a slight enhancement in channel separation. The dialogue production features natural-sounding voices, and spatial integration is quite good. Otherwise, sound effects and music are balanced toward the screen, and surround activity is reserved for gentle ambient fill-in from the latter. Deep bass along with .1 LFE is barely a factor for this film. This is basically conventional movie stereo.
