After losing their academic posts at a prestigious university, a team of parapsychologists goes into business as proton-pack-toting "ghostbusters" who exterminate ghouls, hobgoblins and supernatural pests of all stripes. An ad campaign pays off when a knockout cellist hires the squad to purge her swanky digs of demons that appear to be living in her refrigerator.

Story Synopsis:
When the bewitching Dana Barrett (Weaver) discovers that her refrigerator has suddenly become a portal into the spiritual dimension, a quartet of paranormal investigators (Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis & Hudson) known as the Ghostbusters race into action. Eventually the entire city of New York is under siege from the evil Zuul and his slimey cohorts.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced DVD is stunning in clarity and resolution. Fleshtones are accurately rendered, and colors are fully saturated, with deep black levels. Still, contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered, with a good gradation between darkness and total picture black. The DVD is solid and free of distracting compression pixelization and artifacts. The anamorphic and letterbox aspect ratios measure 2.40:1.
Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is remastered in Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete audio using the original 4-track discrete master. The enhancement comes from the .1 LFE that delivers deep bass down to 25Hz, and is used with both sound effects and music. The 5.1 audio nicely delivers channel separation and a wide soundstage. Fidelity is somewhat dated, but the soundtrack nonetheless delivers a pleasing sonic experience. Dialogue sounds reasonably natural and spatial integration is fair. The surrounds are active throughout the presentation, and occasionally are aggressive, but nothing was detected in the way of split surrounds. Elmer Bernstein’s signature music score sounds wonderful in this new discrete audio incarnation. Overall, this is a nice retouching of the sound for a great classic film.
