Notes

Special Notes:
Six scenes cut from the original theatrical release are provided along with extensive key scenes analysis with storyboards, script excerpts, photos and extra footage. A wonderful and fascinating scene-by-scene audio commentary by director Gilliam is provided on the analog soundtrack.

Story Synopsis:
The Fisher King is just about as perfect a film as you will find; an alternately dark and sweet romantic comedy. It is director Terry Gilliam’s melancholy symbolic, surrealistic urban fable masterpiece of the human spirit. The nightmarish images of modern Manhattan are where contemporary crises and medieval mythology merge. Jeff Bridges plays Jack, a radio shock jock who redeems himself by living out the impossible dreams of Parry (Robin Williams). Mercedes Ruehl won an Academy® Award for her performance as Jack’s girlfriend.

LaserDisc Picture:
The stunning cinematography is wonderful to look at. The quality of the transfer is exemplar. It was made from a first-rate intermediate positive from the original negative. The picture has a sharp focus and excellent shadow detail in the dark areas of the scenes. Contrast is excellent as is the color balance.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack presents an aggressive Dolby Surround® mix with excellent envelopment. The surround encoded digital stereo was produced from the two-track magnetic Dolby Stereo® master originally recorded in Dolby A. The sound is completely noise-free and with excellent clarity and dynamics The haunting, phantom fire-emitting knight is a sonic treat with the deep base pronouncements and sound effects that accompany his presence in the film.
