Story Synopsis:
The 1969 Academy Award®-winner for Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Score and Original Song (“Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”), Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid stars Robert Redford and Paul Newman as likeable outlaws who have grown tired of outrunning the law in the Old West. So, accompanied by Sundance’s girlfriend (Ross), they travel to Bolivia, learn the language of bank robbing and take another shot at success as “Bandidos Yanquis.”
DVD Picture:
The THX®-digitally mastered, anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a beautiful picture that opens with breathtaking monochromatic sepia toned images. As the movie progresses to full color, hues are nicely rendered. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered with excellent depth. Some scenes are a bit dark. Viewed alone, the DVD exhibits a crisp picture with occasional artifacts. Rarely does the picture show signs of its age. Some scenes are softly focused, but overall, the picture is quite sharp. Minor instances of pixelization are apparent.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 2.0 soundtrack is big fat mono. When ProLogic®-decoded, the audio is properly placed in the center channel. The sound is undistinguished and dated in fidelity, but seems to have been processed to minimize background noise.
