Melvin Udall, a cranky, bigoted, obsessive-compulsive writer of romantic fiction, is rude to everyone he meets, including his gay neighbor, Simon. After Simon is hospitalized, Melvin finds his life turned upside down when he has to look after Simon's dog. In addition, Carol, the only waitress at the local diner who will tolerate him, must leave work to care for her sick son, making it impossible for Melvin to eat breakfast.

WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Academy Award®-winners Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt star in As Good As It Gets, a sharp-witted comedy about an obsessive-compulsive romance novelist and the motherly waitress at the cafe he regularly patronizes.
DVD Picture:
The picture quality on both the LaserDisc and the anamorphic widescreen DVD is gorgeous with vibrant colors and excellent imagery, though the DVD, when viewed in the component video format is more magnificent with its improved vertical and horizontal resolution. Both versions were sourced from a Sony HD transfer and there is absolutely no noise or artifacts visible for a pristine picture experience. The anamorphic and letterbox DVD and LaserDisc aspect ratios are 1.85:1.
Soundtrack:
The 5.0 Dolby® Digital discrete soundtrack mostly sounds monaural, with virtually no surround signal, while the matrix PCM delivers the extra dimension that effective surround creates. Thus, much of the Dolby Digital presentation is limited and wanting in spatial dimension, while the matrix version delivers a more consistent 4.0 soundfield, though the surrounds are not discrete. Dialogue is spatially integrated, though sometimes unnaturally ADR-produced.
