Notes
My quick rating - 6,7/10. Perfectly set for a Halloween flick, in a quiet small town. You may have heard of it, Salem. I had to visit when I was out there, wasn't exactly what I was expecting, anyway, the movie. So in this town, legend has it that 300 years ago, 3 witches, played absolutely wonderfully by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, were put to death when caught trying to suck the souls of children out of them to remain youthful and pretty. Now, for Disney, this is already a bit risque, but still holds to its name with beautiful camerawork and the odd, yet ever present scenes that are clearly in a secluded set, no larger than your living room, and attempted to make look grand, such as a cemetary or forest. Anyway, this is not a good or bad thing, just something they tended to do, not so much these days with cgi. So face forward to 1993 (now lol) and a new kid in school, and the girl of his dreams (that day) along with his little sister decide to visit the site where they were dispelled from. Immaculately kept, and transformed into a museum, they accidentally release the evil witches (i won't say how or why, the joke is for you to hear) and of course they are still hell bent on their plans. Back to the highlight of the movie, the witches. Either their astonishing overacting will drive you nuts, or you will love it, but that was 100% the point, and might be the only reason I can't score this higher. This is why I said they were brilliant and at the same time, a bit too much. And I don't think SJP acting like a ditz was a big stretch either, as much as I adore her. All and all, this movie does a great job and standing the test of time. The effects are fine, they didn't need to be flashy and were used just fine. The humor in this is very straight forward, and works very well. I must say this is a good way to get into the mood for a family viewing when Halloween is just around the corner. Kudos @nicole alonso
