Attention, fellow enthusiasts of the undead genre, allow me to forewarn you, this flick diverges significantly from your typical zombie film, leaning more towards drama than straight-up horror. If your cravings lean towards gore and visceral thrills, this might not be the ideal choice for you. Personally, though, I found immense pleasure in the film's audacious exploration of how humanity grapples with the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. In this universe, those once afflicted, dubbed "returners," coexist within society after timely intervention curbs the infection. They manage this by adhering to a strict regimen of daily doses to keep the virus suppressed—a pivotal element driving the narrative. The film adeptly delves into the complexities of this situation, examining how individuals adapt and react. The acting performances are commendable, though occasionally the characters struck me as a touch too ordinary given the extraordinary circumstances. Yet, perhaps this very relatability adds a layer of authenticity to their portrayals. Emily Hampshire was clearly the stand out in my opinion as she just exuded realism. The strength of the movie lies in its well-crafted script and innovative concepts. It's refreshing to witness a novel perspective on the age-old zombie theme, even if some scenes veer into the realm of absurdity (case in point: the inexplicable car escapade in the parking garage). However, minor quibbles aside, the film as a whole offers a captivating experience well worth your time, especially if you opt for a budget-friendly viewing option.
