Notes

My quick rating - 4,3/10. Going in blind, well minus the 4,1 on IMDB. The masses weren't far off my opinion. I did see a bit of promise in this poorly told mess. Seemed every time something good caught my attention it was immediately followed by something silly. The story of a girl who witnesses her mother taken from her by something otherworldly was told after she grew up in a difficult method. The flashbacks and moves through time were unnecessarily confusing and could've been assisted along with possibly a different view or filter, something to keep track of which timeframe we were in. The story goes from mom vanishing to a grown-up kid doing drugs and dancing, to being introduced to a cult in a matter of a few edits. Camille Rowe as Aurora does her best to keep things going and does a pretty admirable job in this movie but the script just wanders too often. It is such a strange mix of effects here since for an indie they creatively and effectively used their green screen just fine but then they incorporated that with their "spaceship" which looked no better than Star Trek from the 60s quality sets. Just a very odd balance for these scenes. Also, they weren't even needed to further the story along since the plot itself was there and kept you interested between being engrossing and also forcing you to figure out which Aurora we are currently dealing with. I also noticed a big flaw in one of the characters that seemed to go against who he actually was throughout the flick. No spoilers so you would have to see what I mean but Tom (Joshua Burge) just didn't make sense when the ending rolled about. Speaking of, even though the ending worked just fine, it was very dissatisfying since it is exactly what you saw. There was no twists or surprise so I really don't know what the entire point of the movie was supposed to be. Still throughout being very slow at times and with the flaws I still cannot say it was horrible since it has quite a few positives that hopefully they can build on in their next full-length outing.
