A man threatens to jump off Dave's office window ledge unless he can read a statement on the air.
The station is losing money, so Jimmy decides to bring in an efficiency expert to cut costs. Matthew picks that day to be more odd than usual.
While Andrea keeps bugging Dave, Mr. James lets a camera crew into the office to film a documentary about himself. Bill is working on a musical act.
Andrea wants everyone on the staff to take a lie detector test. Mr. James does a book reading of his autobiography.
Lisa mistakenly believes she's been dumped by Dave, which Andrea finds out about and leads to an investigation of the relationship. Andrea deludes herself into thinking she and Lisa are friends. Bill causes Mr. James legal trouble after suggesting foreign diplomats be dragged out from cars and beaten for not paying parking tickets, and one subsequently is. Beth and Joe discover Matthew has a real talent.
As the new boss, Lisa's attempt to make a good, serious first impression on the staff ends in epic failure. Dave, trying to get his job back, decides to become "pure evil" and unleash Bill, which doesn't bring the results he hoped for. Matthew is now living in Lisa's office, having been kicked out of his apartment.
When Catherine decides to leave WNYX, each staff member recalls a different version of the event.
Because of a bet he made, Mr. James promises to rehire Matthew if somebody from WNYX wins a talent show.
When Lisa hears Mr. James once told Dave the secret of good management, she desperately wants to know too.
Bill announces he's adopting a baby.
On his 32nd birthday, Dave gets visited by three old college friends of his who want him to quit his job and join their old a capella singing group.
Dave and Lisa make Bill the boss to teach him a lesson. Joe is on strike.
Mr. James tells Dave and Lisa to run for the position of boss, even though neither want to be the boss.
Because things have been disappearing from his desk, Dave has a card-operated security door installed at the station entrance. Meanwhile, Bill is hired to do a TV commercial for a blue-jean company.
Lisa and Beth try to find out why Matthew has gotten a brother from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Dave seemingly becomes paranoid when Bill suggests Lisa has a secret new boyfriend, which leads Bill, Joe, and Mr. James on the hunt for whom the guy is.
Using information secretly collected by secret office observers, Mr. James notices Dave and Lisa's productivity levels were higher when they were dating. Mr. James tries to get them back together, but when that fails, Bill steps in. Mr. James gets Matthew a small red car for his birthday, which he drives around the building and meets a girl with.
Mr. James announces he is going to circle the Earth in a hot air balloon. Bill tries to quit smoking by instead using chewing tobacco.
After a co-worker nobody knew dies in a freak incident involving a copy machine Joe modified, Joe blames himself for the man's death. An old college friend of the departed shows up wanting to know more about him, and the staff, led by Bill, make up lies.
Mr. James has Dave hire Walt, his only normal nephew, for an intern position. Dave turns Walt over to Bill for training. Matthew tells Dave he has a crush on Lisa and wants to ask her out. Walt also has a crush on Lisa.
Jimmy sponsors an ultimate fight contest between Mathew and Joe. Bill begins recording his conversations with Lisa.
Due to Beth's vacation, the guys now consider WNYX an all-male work floor, despite Lisa still being around.
